Sugar cookies are unbelievably easy to make at home. I tend to forget that because there are holidays or festivities where we are all guilty of buying them from a grocery store or bakery. Even though most of us are not professional bakers, including myself, making them from scratch just have a lot more personality. I mean this by saying... baking for others is very thoughtful and much appreciated. These cookies are so sweet and cute. You can substitute any color m&ms to match the theme for any event!
Sugar Cookies with Holiday Theme M&Ms
Ingredients
2 ½ cups all purpose flour
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp kosher salt
2 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature
2 eggs
¾ cup granulated sugar
½ cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup pink m&ms plus more to top (Valentines theme)
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
In a medium size bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Cream the sugar and butter until creamy. Then, slowly mix in each egg. While continuing to mix , add the vanilla extract. Slowly incorporate the flour. Lastly, mix in the m&ms.
Using a medium size cookie scoop, scoop and roll into balls. Place on the cookie sheet. (Note: before placing in the oven, you can put the dough into the freezer to allow it to set)
Bake for 11-12 minutes.
Note: I like to slightly under bake the cookies because they will cool and harden. I want them to be very soft in the center.
