ABOUT ME

Hi. I’m Lourdes Perez, everyone knows me as Lulu. I was born and raised in a small town located in the Central Valley in California. I’m 26 years old and am a full time Middle School Special Education Teacher. I love what I do and I love working with kids. However, what brings me true joy is my love for cooking and entertaining my friends and family.

It began way back in my teen years, watching the Food Network, writing down recipes from Giada De Laurentiis and Rachel Ray and experimenting in the kitchen. I guess you can say, I’m a self taught, “Chef.” I’ve been my mom’s little sous chef ever since I can remember.  She is who taught me real authentic Mexican cooking and I continue to learn from her to this day.

I never went to culinary school, but that didn’t keep me from learning new techniques, creating new dishes, and searching for new recipes to re-invent. I have never been so inspired at this time in my life. I am learning to balance a full time career, being a wife, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle while entertaining for friends and family with delicious food and dessert. After celebrating our three year wedding anniversary, I’ve learned many things. One that is most significant... FOOD is what gathers everyone together and I live for it.

5 Quick Things About Me

  1. I try not to follow any specific diet- Vegan, Vegetarian, Paleo, gluten free, low carb, keto, etc. In my house we are definitely mindful about what we eat, so we can enjoy our favorite meals and desserts.

  2. I stay active- whether it's going on a run, hitting the gym, or creating a HIIT workout at home. If I go longer than 3 days without a workout, I won’t feel myself.

  3. I enjoy reading Cookbooks- This is how I get ideas. Especially from chefs that inspire me. I used to buy random ones when I was younger. Now I get specific books that inspire my love for the cuisine or just because I love what they stand for.

  4. Music lifts my soul. When I’m on my way to work, cooking in the kitchen, cleaning, or relaxing; music is what motivates and just keeps me productive.

  5. I love being a tia (auntie)!! I come from a large family, ten of us total (5 brothers and 2 sisters). All biological. Currently, have 10 nieces and nephews. Another role I have is trying to be the best tia I can be. Even if my nephew, Mandito, asks me to make chocolate chip cookies, I’m on it, ASAP.
